چکیده

We have done a statistical analysis of Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) data of water masers in the star-forming regions (SFRs) Cepheus A and W75 N, using correlation functions to study the spatial clustering and Doppler-velocity distribution of these masers. Two-point spatial correlation functions show a characteristic scale size for clusters of water maser spots .1 AU, similar to the values found in other SFRs. This suggests that the scale for water maser excitation tends to be .1 AU. Velocity correlation functions show power-law dependences with indices that can be explained by regular velocity fields, such as expansion and/or rotation. These velocity fields are similar to those indicated by the water maser proper-motion measurements; therefore, the velocity correlation functions appear to reveal the organized motion of water maser spots on scales larger than 1 AU. Large Magnetic Fields and Motions of Oh Masers in W75 N

We report on a second epoch of VLBA observations of the 1665 and 1667 MHz OH masers in the massive star-forming region W75 N. We find evidence to confirm the existence of very strong (∼ 40 mG) magnetic fields near source VLA 2. The masers near VLA 2 are dynamically distinct and include a very bright spot apparently moving at 50 km s−1 relative to those around VLA 1. This fast-moving spot may be...

Submillimeter Array Observations of 321 Ghz Water Maser Emission in Cepheus A

Using the Submillimeter Array (SMA) we have imaged for the first time the 321.226 GHz, 1029−936 ortho-H2O maser emission. This is also the first detection of this line in the Cepheus A high-mass star-forming region. The 22.235 GHz, 616 − 523 water masers were also observed with the Very Large Array 43 days following the SMA observations. Three of the nine detected submillimeter maser spots are ...

Magnetic field in Cepheus A as deduced from OH maser polarimetric observations

We present the results of MERLIN polarization mapping of OH masers at 1665 and 1667MHz towards the CepheusA star-forming region. The maser emission is spread over a region of 6 arcsec by 10 arcsec, twice the extent previously detected. In contrast to the 22-GHz water masers, the OH masers associated with HII regions show neither clear velocity gradients nor regular structures. We identified ten...

The Magnetic Field in the Star-forming Region Cepheus A from H2O Maser Polarization Observations

We present linear and circular polarization observations of the H2O masers in 4 distinct regions spread over 1 × 2 arcseconds around the HW2 high-mass young stellar object in the Cepheus A star-forming region. We find magnetic fields between 100–500 mG in the central maser region, which has been argued to trace a circumstellar disk. The masers further from HW2 have field strengths between 30–10...

Trigonometric Parallaxes of Massive Star Forming Regions : II . Cep A & NGC 7538

We report trigonometric parallaxes for the sources NGC 7538 and Cep A, corresponding to distances of 2.65 −0.11 kpc and 0.70 +0.04 −0.04 kpc, respectively. The distance to NGC 7538 is considerably smaller than its kinematic distance and places it in the Perseus spiral arm. The distance to Cep A is also smaller than its kinematic distance and places it in the “Local” arm or spur. Combining the d...
